My name is Justin Morgan. I am currently a student at Taylorsville High School. I keep an active schedule playing in the Granite Youth Symphony, Taylorsville High School Orchestra, Young Artist Chamber Players, Salt Lake Pops Orchestra, Utah Youth Philharmonic, and the Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra. I also serve as a mentor of the Youth Chamber Orchestra, one of three additional orchestras that have been added to the "family" of Young Artist Chamber Players—an organization committed to serve and prepare young string players to be competent and to enjoy fine chamber playing. I have served as an acting member of the Salt Lake Symphony on several occasions. I am currently studying under Utah Symphony Bassist Jamie Allyn. I have also participated in the Taylorsville Arts Council and wa one of the founding members of the Taylorsville-Salt Lake Community College Symphony Board of Directors, where I served as the principal double bassist until November 2012. I have performed as a soloist, participated in tours of the United States, been involved in recordings with the Salt Lake Symphony, and participated in music videos with the Salt Lake Pops Orchestra. I have performed in some of the finest concert venues in the World, including Abravanel Hall, the Mormon Tabernacle on Temple Square, and the world-famous Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA. I describe myself as a diligent advocate of symphonic music, having written many orchestral compositions, served as associate conductor of the Eisenhower Orchestras, and teaching private bass lessons to aspiring musicians of all ages. I also enjoy writing for the Warrior Ledger as a Copy Editor, designing and managing websites for the Granite Youth Symphony and Utah Youth Orchestras & Ensembles SymPopOps Club, and spending time with my wonderful friends and family.

Has Studied Instrument For:
I played violin for a week, gave myself a migraine, and decided that it was not the best choice for me. I then played cello for a year. Still unsatisfied, I switched to bass. In the 7 years that I have played bass, there has never been a dull moment.

Favorite Composer:
It changes on a weekly basis; however, the two composers that I always find myself coming back to are Rolf Martinsson and Dimitri Shostakovich.

Favorite Piece of Music:
The wealth of great classical works makes it difficult to pick favorites. As a player, I try to make whatever music is in front of me the greatest piece imaginable. It might be a favorite for someone listening - I don’t want that opinion to be altered.
