2013 Young Composer Competition
The competition is open to all students, elementary through high school (K-5 through 12th grade during the 2013-2014 school year), residing in Georgia on August 15, 2013.
Competitors are to write a short piece for piano based on the given theme. The theme will be released to the public on June 1, 2013. There is no minimum time requirement, however the piece should be no longer than 4 minutes.
Treatment of the theme may range from simple chordal accompaniment to advanced contrapuntal techniques and thematic transformations.
Printed scores must be mailed to the address below.
In addition to the printed score, competitors must upload a video performance of their composition on www.MusicalOverture.com. Instructions for uploading the video may be found on www.MusicalOverture.com. The video may be of the student performing himself/herself, or of someone else such as another student. However, the video performance may not be by the teacher or parent.
Entries must be received by 11:59pm on Thursday, August 15, 2013.
Entries received after the deadline will not be considered.

Winners will be chosen from each of the following categories:
Elementary School (K – grade 5)
Middle School (grades 6-8)
High School (grades 9-12)
The winners will be given individual orchestration lessons with Terry Lowry, Conductor and Music Director of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra, to orchestrate their pieces for performances with the CSO on November 7, 2013, at the annual convention of the Georgia Music Teachers Association.
